Blackpool decision made on Birmingham City loanee following limited game time
Emil Hansson will take up a new opportunity abroad following a disappointing loan spell with Blackpool.
Emil Hansson’s loan spell with Blackpool has come to an end - with game time becoming limited for the midfielder.
The 27-year-old made the temporary move from Birmingham City in the summer, and was initially signed to play as a winger under Steve Bruce, but a change of system following Ian Evatt’s appointment in October saw his natural position taken off the table.
Under the current Seasiders boss, Hansson had been used as the more attacking option in a midfield three, but quickly found himself down the pecking order.
His last outing for the club was an FA Cup tie against Carlisle United, where he had looked bright for a spell before being forced off at half time through injury.
Since then, the Blues man has either been an unused substitute or not in the matchday squad at all.
When he has featured, Hansson probably hasn’t had the impact he would’ve hoped for, with just two goals and two assists coming his way in 24 appearances in all competitions.
Confirming the exit of the loanee, and a new opportunity for him abroad, Evatt said: “He’s been recalled by Birmingham, and I believe he will go to Holland.
“I think he’s a fantastic lad first-and-foremost. His attitude, and the way he acted and behaved, is first-class. I enjoy working with really good professionals, and Emil is a good professional.
“He was signed to play in a different system. We tried to shoehorn him into our way of playing, but it didn’t quite work. Mostly it was a physicality issue.
“Emil is a technical player, and in this league the technical aspect is not a strength, especially winter football. He needs to play in a technical league with a team that will have lots of the ball.
“I know he’ll do really well because a top professional.”
