'With the threat of Russia, we need' - Fylde coast debates 2nd Brexit referendum
Debates about another potential Brexit referendum have been heating up in recent weeks, and residents from across the Fylde coast have now had their say.
PM Andy Burnham said in September that Brexit did ‘more harm than good’, and that he wants to pursue closer ties with the European Union. This has led to intense national debate about whether there should be a second Brexit referendum.
The people of the Fylde coast have now had their say on the potential for a second referendum. One woman outlined: “No, we have already had one. Just complete what people wanted before instead of throwing spanners in the works so to speak.”
Another man agreed that a referendum would not be ideal. “You can’t keep voting until you get the answer you want. The vote was meant to be a once in a lifetime vote, not let's keep voting until they get the result we like.”

Some Fylde coasters would be happy for a vote. One person said: "I'd be happy to re-join as an associate member, in the earlier Common Market form; other countries have this so it is possible.” Another added: “Yes, why not? If the majority are still happy with Brexit, that will affirm it.”
“Yes. We didn't know enough about the business side to vote” another resident added. “Cameron assumed we would all vote in favour of staying. Some people voted out due to false racial issues, some because we think we are a mighty country. Now with the threat of Russia and people like Trump we need to be more united than ever before.”
Another resident was quick to point out the potential financial burdens of another referendum: “Every time we have a referendum it costs a whole heap of money, then if we vote to rejoin, more money, then to leave again- even more money.”
