We've lost 12 stone with Slimming World so we could go to the Remembrance Parade
Fleetwood RAF veterans Eddie and Amy Atkin have shed a remarkable 12 stone between them with Slimming World allowing them to fulfil a dream of marching in this year’s Remembrance Day parade.
A Fleetwood RAF veteran couple have lost a combined 12 stone, thanks to Slimming World, so they could march with pride in this year’s Remembrance Day parade.
Eddie and Amy Atkin say their weight “ballooned” after marrying in 2023, but supporting each other every step of the way has helped them stay on track.

Eddie, who reached 28 stone at his heaviest, admits he felt like a “heart attack waiting to happen.” Now, with a significant reduction in weight, both he and Amy were fit enough to join fellow veterans on the parade route in November.
The pair joined Sarah Wells’ Slimming World group in Fleetwood last December and signed up through the Slimming World NHS referral scheme, which offers Wyre residents 12 weeks of support free of charge.
Much of their success came from cutting out takeaways and embracing a diet rich in fruit and vegetables - Amy jokingly describes it as eating “an orchard” a day.

As their energy levels improved, they also introduced gym sessions into their routine.
Eddie said: “It’s been brilliant having each other to motivate and keep on track.

“We’ve gone from being unfit and struggling with day-to-day activities to feeling healthier, more energetic, and ready to take part in the parade.”
Amy added: “We never imagined we’d make such a transformation in under a year. The support from the group, plus having Eddie beside me, made all the difference.”
The couple hope their story will inspire others to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle.
With the NHS referral scheme providing accessible support and the encouragement of a partner, they show that weight loss can be achieved together and that reclaiming your fitness can bring both pride and unforgettable experiences.
