'We’ve closed our doors after 38 years' - Fylde Meats bids farewell to Ansdell

After 38 years serving the surrounding community, Fylde Meats on Woodlands Road has closed its doors for good.

Fylde Meats has closed its doors for good after 38 years of trading on Woodlands Road, marking the end of an era for the long-standing shop.

The business, most recently run by Simon and Claire for the past nine years, announced the closure in a message to customers.

They said the decision had been made “with a heavy heart” after increasing financial pressures made the shop unsustainable.

In a statement, the owners pointed to a downturn in average customer spend alongside rising costs, including English locally sourced meat and electricity bills, as the main reasons behind the closure.

Owners Claire & Simons, said: “So as you all may have heard by now that we have had to close the shop.

“It’s with a heavy heart as we have had much fun over the last 9 years being a service to Ansdell and surrounding areas.

“The truth is the downturn in average spend and rising costs of english local meat, electricity etc has made the business unsustainable.

“I’d like to thank all fylde meats customers for many years of support. I will be supporting a new butchers business in St Annes square opening in the next few months and hopefully passing on sausage/pie recipes to them so you hopefully wont have to wait long to get your fix again.”

Like many independent retailers the business has faced mounting overheads in recent years.

Fylde Meats has been a familiar fixture in the community for nearly four decades serving generations of customers across Ansdell and the surrounding areas.

The shop was well known for its sausages and pies, as well as its traditional butcher’s counter service.

The owners expressed their gratitude to customers for their loyalty and support over the years.

Although the Woodlands Road premises have now closed, there is some positive news for regulars.

Simon will be supporting a new butcher’s business set to open in St Anne’s Square in the coming months with plans to pass on some of Fylde Meats’ popular sausage and pie recipes to the new venture.
