'Residents don't want excuses' - Major update on roadworks on prominent St Annes Broadacre housing development
“Residents don't want excuses.”
Fylde MP Andrew Snowden has said that after ‘more than a year of chasing, letters, emails, and repeated promises’ a house developer has finally started crucial work on a local development.
Mr Snowden has previously accused Morris Homes of treating residents ‘like an afterthought’ as he demands the housebuilder finally completes the roads on a prominent St Annes housing development.
Nearly five years after work first began on constructing the Broadacre development on the former Premium Bonds site at Shepherd Road, residents are still waiting for the estate roads to be properly finished, despite repeated promises from the developer. Now Mr Snowden says that surfacing work has finally begun.

‘Just want roads finished’
“I genuinely didn't think anyone could make County Hall look quick at fixing roads... But Morris Homes have given it a good go,” wrote Andrew Snowden MP on social media. “After more than a year of chasing, letters, emails and repeated promises of ‘the next few weeks’, we've finally got movement. Surfacing work on the Broadacre Estate has finally started.
“I've already gone back asking for more detail on timings and what exactly is being done. Residents don't want excuses. They just want their roads finished.”
Construction on the site started in 2021, with most families moving into their new homes during 2022. The final properties were completed earlier this year, yet essential roadworks remained unfinished.

Residents said that protruding ironwork and unfinished road surfaces caused damage to vehicles, while some taxi drivers and delivery companies were allegedly now refusing to enter parts of the estate because of the poor condition of the roads.
Homeowners first began raising concerns with Morris Homes in June 2025 and have repeatedly asked when the roads would finally be completed. Despite being assured work would take place ‘soon’, no meaningful progress has been made.
Frustrated residents turned to Mr Snowden earlier this year for help and following his intervention, Morris Homes again indicated the work would be carried out shortly.
Mike Coker, North Managing Director for Morris Homes, said: “We understand the frustration felt by our customers due to the delay in completing these essential works and appreciate their patience while we arrange for the necessary contractors to start.
“I can confirm the resurfacing works are due to recommence imminently and will take around four months to complete. We will be updating all Broadacres residents of these plans in the coming days.”
