Blackpool woman left with 'serious' injuries after car smashes through hedgerow near Little Eccleston

A Blackpool woman was rushed to hospital in "critical condition" after her car came off the road before smashing through a hedgerow near Little Eccleston.

A Kia Picanto was travelling on Garstang Road when it came off the road shortly before 9am today (September 1).

The car then smashed through a hedgerow before finally coming to a rest in a nearby field, leaving the driver - a 51-year-old woman from Blackpool - suffering with "serious injuries."

An air ambulance, land ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and police attended the scene and the woman was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital in "critical condition."

A road closure was put in place near Windy Harbour for around four hours while the incident was dealt with.

Officers have confirmed the woman remains in hospital, and they are now urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Sgt Martin Wilcock, of Tac Ops, said: "This collision has left a woman with some very serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or the car in the moments before the collision, or who has any information, to come forward and contact us."
