Trams cancelled and bus routes diverted in Fleetwood after major fire - here's what we know

Tram services into Fleetwood have been suspended and several bus routes diverted after a major fire on Lord Street.

Blackpool Transport says trams are currently terminating at Thornton Gate while emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

Why are trams not running into Fleetwood?

Blackpool Transport has confirmed that an ongoing fire on Lord Street in Fleetwood has forced changes to public transport services across the town.

As a result, trams are unable to complete their normal journey to Fleetwood Ferry and are currently terminating at Thornton Gate instead.

The disruption was introduced in the early hours of Thursday morning and remains in place while the incident continues.

Which tram stops are affected?

Passengers travelling on the Blackpool tramway cannot currently reach the northern Fleetwood section of the route.

Instead of running to Fleetwood Ferry, trams are turning back at Thornton Gate until further notice. This means passengers heading to Fleetwood town centre or the ferry terminal will need to complete their journeys using alternative transport.

What bus services have been diverted?

The fire has also affected Blackpool Transport bus services 1, 5 and 14.

Buses travelling towards Fleetwood are being diverted via Lofthouse Way, Station Road, Dock Street and Pharos Street before terminating on Lord Street.

Services heading towards Blackpool are operating via Queens Terrace, Dock Street, Station Road and Lofthouse Way before rejoining their normal routes.

What should passengers do?

Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check the latest travel information before setting off.

Blackpool Transport has apologised for the disruption and says the diversions and tram curtailment will remain in place until it is safe to restore normal services.

Other transport issues

Separate from the Fleetwood fire, Blackpool Transport has also reported a number of individual tram journeys cancelled because of technical issues and a temporary diversion affecting some bus services in the Cleveleys area due to crossing works.

However, the Fleetwood fire remains the main cause of disruption for passengers travelling into the town.
