Residents in Wyre who need to leave their homes to go to work are being offered lateral flow tests at Thornton Leisure Centre in Victoria Road East.

Workers are being encouraged to get tested at least once a week - and if possible every three to five days.

From next week, the leisure centre will open for longer hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, allowing residents to visit between 9am and 7pm.

Thornton's YMCA Leisure Centre has been set up as a Covid lateral flow testing site for symptom-free workers.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the leisure centre will open from 9am to 4.30pm.

Testing is free, and no appointment is required.

The tests are for symptom-free workers only - anybody displaying Covid symptoms must stay at home and self-isolate.

Coun David Henderson, leader of Wyre Council, said the centre was open for anyone who is self-employed or who works for a business not currently offering testing.

"Symptom-free testing is currently voluntary, but it will help people to make informed decisions to help keep themselves and their families safe, and help protect those most vulnerable to Covid-19," he added.
