Experts are being sought to run Blackpool's famous World Fireworks Championships with an estimated value of up to £360,000 placed on the contract.

The council has used North West procurement site The Chest to advertise for an operator to work alongside its tourism arm VisitBlackpool.

According to the specifications, the town is seeking "a world class fireworks company to provide event support and logistical management and a fireworks display to the World Firework Championship event in Blackpool."

It adds: "This is a major event in Blackpool and as such this free event typically attracts up to 60,000 spectators per night, spanning a distance of two miles.

"The displays should be of sufficient height, scale and spectacle to be visible to all spectators."

The successful candidate will "be responsible for all elements regarding the arrangement, management and delivery of each individual display".

There could also be requirements to provide fireworks at other displays under the VisitBlackpool banner.

The contract would cover 2022 and 2023 with options for up to three further years.

The council has already announced there will be three displays lighting up the skies this autumn, with the World Fireworks Champsionships due to take place over alternate Saturdays on September 17, October 1 and October 15 on the beach in front of Blackpool Tower.

On the same procurement site, the council is also seeking consultants to undertake a £20,000 feasability study investigating the potential to install solar panels on all it housing stock.The aim of the study would be to consider the benefits of using renewable energy.
