Police give update on injured woman who fell off Waltzer at Blackpool's South Pier

A woman in her 20s who fell off the Waltzer ride at Blackpool's South Pier has been treated in hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, say police.

Emergency services were called to South Pier at 6.50pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 21) after the woman came off the spinning fairground ride whilst it was in motion.

Eyewitnesses reported that a woman allegedly attempted to stand up whilst the ride was moving, causing her to fall and suffer injuries to her face, head and back.

But today (July 22), Lancashire Police has confirmed that her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The force said the accident has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive for further investigation.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 6.50pm yesterday (Tuesday) to South Pier Promenade, Blackpool, to reports of an industrial accident.

"We attended and found a woman, aged in her 20s, had come off the Waltzers ride and suffered suspected head and neck injuries.

"She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The incident is now being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with assistance from police."

Images from the scene show the Waltzer ride cordoned off with police tape and a large hole in one of its perspex windows.

Three police cars and a van, as well as a number of paramedics attended the accident at South Pier. The woman was taken to Blackpool Vic by ambulance.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "It looks like we were called at 6.38pm yesterday to South Pier.

"We sent an RRV (rapid response vehicle), land ambulance, advanced paramedic and treated a female patient with head injuries.

"We took the patient to Blackpool Victoria Hospital."
