New life for Lytham Hall landmark as Gardener’s Cottage officially opens

A historic outbuilding at Lytham Hall has been given a new lease of life after months of careful restoration with the Gardener’s Cottage officially opening as a self-catering holiday let and helping to secure the future of the Georgian estate.

The Gardener’s Cottage at Lytham Hall has officially opened following an extensive restoration project, marking another milestone in the ongoing preservation of one of Lancashire’s finest Georgian houses.

The charming property, set within the Hall’s historic parkland, has been transformed into a self-catering holiday let and becomes the second such accommodation on the estate, joining the popular Gatehouses.

The project forms part of a wider strategy by Heritage Trust North West (HTNW) to bring unused historic buildings back into daily use while generating vital income for the upkeep of the Hall.

The restoration has been made possible thanks to generous support from Lytham Town Trust and The Friends of Lytham Hall, alongside significant fundraising efforts by the Lytham Hall management team.

Together, their contributions have helped safeguard an important heritage asset and create a unique visitor experience.

Lytham Town Trust Chair David Gill said: “We are delighted to support Heritage Trust North West with a donation of £63,475, which has helped to transform the Gardener's Cottage at Lytham Hall into a unique self-catering experience for visitors.

“This project not only opens up an exciting new way for people to enjoy the beauty and heritage of Lytham Hall, but it also creates an important new income stream for HTNW.

“We are particularly pleased that at a proportion of the profits generated will go directly back into the repair, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the Hall, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.”

The Friends of Lytham Hall also welcomed the opening, congratulating the management team and HTNW on restoring another historic building and returning it to everyday use.

The Friends of Lytham Hall said, "The FOLH would like to congratulate Peter, the LH management team and HTNW on the opening of the Gardeners cottage.

“It is great to see another building restored and put back in to daily use."

Finding sustainable new purposes for the estate’s listed buildings has long been a priority for the Trust. By combining conservation with carefully considered commercial use, the Gardener’s Cottage project demonstrates how heritage sites can be protected while remaining vibrant and relevant.

The Gardener’s Cottage and the Gatehouses are now available to book as holiday accommodation via Sykes Cottages, offering visitors a rare opportunity to stay within the grounds of Lytham Hall while directly supporting its future.
