Blackpool firm lands record contract for electrical work on 4,800 homes, creating 7 new jobs
A Blackpool-based contractor has secured a major deal to carry out electrical work in thousands of social housing properties, a move that is expected to create seven new jobs.
Evolution Construction has been awarded a contract by Blackpool Coastal Housing to deliver electrical safety, maintenance and improvement works to around 4,800 homes across Blackpool and the Fylde coast. The work is due to begin on 1 April 2026.

As a result of the contract, the company is recruiting seven additional staff, including five electricians, a planner and an electrical quality supervisor.
Jamie Weston, Blackpool Coastal Housing’s Interim Director of Asset Management, said: “We always aim to use local companies if we can and we are delighted to award a growing Blackpool company the contract.
“The company has a strong track record of partnership including working with local authorities and social housing providers. We have ourselves already worked with Evolution for a number of years.

“We also ask our suppliers to make commitments on social value. Evolution demonstrated that it can create positive social impact across the communities it serves, and we are really looking forward to seeing the benefits of their initiatives and projects in our local communities.”

Alongside the work on housing, the contract also includes a programme of community-focused activity as well. Plans include careers sessions for young people, more work experience placements, and practical training in DIY and home maintenance for care leavers.
The company has also committed to providing hundreds of hours of staff volunteering and to organising annual fundraising events for local charities.
Cllr Neal Brookes, Blackpool Council’s Deputy Leader and Chair of Blackpool Coastal Housing, commented: “This is yet another example of how public sector contracts and the many regeneration projects that we see across our town can add important economic and social benefits for local areas.
“The creation of new jobs, work experience and contributions to local charities will help so many people.”
The contract represents one of the largest secured by Evolution Construction since it was established in 2012. The business, which began as a sole trader operation, now employs more than 80 people and operates from its base in Blackpool.

JJ Fitzgerald, Evolution Managing Director, said: “Our team consistently delivers the highest standards, and we are proud that this has been recognised by such a major public sector organisation as Blackpool Coastal Housing.
“We are very excited to be working in partnership with the housing organisation to provide a service which will improve the lives of many people across the Blackpool and Fylde Coast areas.
“It will allow us to create career opportunities and more work experience placements for college or school leavers and unemployed residents, which is something that we are really passionate about supporting.”
