New Italian restaurant specialising in small plates opens on Fylde coast

“We try to keep a high standard of authentic quality. Everything we make is homemade.”

A new Italian restaurant specialising in small plates and seasonal produce has opened this week on the Fylde coast.

Basilico, located at 90 Highfield Road in Blackpool, is the brainchild of Massimilano Miglio, known to most as Max. Originally from Milan, Max had spent the last few years running a small pizzeria in Crosby, near Liverpool.

Speaking to the Gazette about his new venture on the Fylde Coast, Basilico’s owner and Head Chef Max said: “We have been open since last Saturday, and it has been crazy busy. We have now started to open properly for lunch too. I have wanted to open a restaurant closer to home, because I live in Thornton Cleveleys.

“Because we import a lot of products from Italy- tomatoes, pasta and other ingredients, we try to keep a high standard of authentic quality. Everything we make is homemade.

“We offer a concept from Italy called cicchetti, which gives you the chance to try two or three smaller dishes without spending a fortune. Our wine is also imported from Italy, and we get high quality wine but at an affordable price.

“People can come to us and try Northern Italian food, something which a lot of other restaurants cannot find. You can come and enjoy a spritz and some wine with a focaccia, or you can come for a special meal as well.”

The restaurant, which is open Tuesday to Sunday, offers a lunch menu described by Max as ‘fast and tasty’ served from 12pm until 3pm. Basilico is then open from 5pm until 10pm for dinner, and customers are welcome to enjoy drinks as well as food.
