Murder probe pub is up for sale

Lisa Chadderton, 44, was found dead in a flat above Gillespies Bar in Topping Street on November 27.

A post-mortem examination showed the mum-of-one, who worked at Abgingdon Street Market, had been strangled and stabbed.

Mark Tindill, 56, of Topping Street has been charged with her murder and is due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Friday.

The pub had been due to reopen after a refurbishment at the time of the tragedy.

Well-wishers placed flowers at the door of the pub, the community rallied round her family and a fund-raising night was held at her favourite pub, The Duke of York.

The Dickson Road premises was packed for the event featuring eight singers who had all given their services for the cause and a host of fund-raising raffles were held with prizes donated by businesses and individuals.

Money raised went to the family and helped cover funeral costs.

Rosalind Knapper, manager of the Duke of York, said at the time: “The response has been amazing.

“People have been coming into the pub for days with donations and items for the raffle. Lisa (pictured) was a very familiar face and popular figure here. We all really enjoyed her company and wanted to do something to honour her memory.”

The Gazette received hundreds of tributes to Ms Chadderton.

Now Gillespies is on the market and a guide price of between £200,000 and £250,000 has been set on it on Savills’ auction website.

The sale is for the whole of the two storey end of terrace building, which was believed to have been built in the 1930s. The ground floor has the bar and servery area while the first floor has a function room and the managers living quarters.

It also has a second floor with four bedrooms.

The estate agents notice points out that, subject to planning consent, “there may be potential to reconfigure the ground floor to create a single or multiple retail units.” It adds that the upper floors could be converted to residential accommodation, separately accessed from the ground floor.
