Major update as Blackpool RNLI pull person from sea near Tower Headland in late-night sea drama
““The people on board were well equipped and did absolutely the right thing in contacting the Coastguard.”
A major late-night rescue resulted in a person pulled from the sea off Tower Headland.
A second was also in difficulty but managed to get themselves ashore in the first of two callouts for Blackpool RNLI launching all three lifeboats.
The first was at 10.35pm on Friday night when HM Coastguard were alerted that two people were in the sea.

A spokesperson for RNLI said: “Both D class lifeboats - Blackpool Endeavour and Phyllis Rowan were launched with one person was found using the FLIR scope and taken aboard the lifeboat.
“The second person recovered themselves to shore to the waiting volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers.
“The one rescued was taken back to the Lifeboat Station and handed over to the North West Ambulance Service for continued care.”

The second call was just after 6pm yesterday.
HM Coastguard had received a distress call from a small fishing vessel broken down half a mile off Central Pier.
With no other options, Blackpool RNLI launched the Atlantic 85 to help.
When they located the vessel, it was towed and returned to its origin location at Starr Gate.
“The people on board were well equipped and did absolutely the right thing in contacting the Coastguard.”
