Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service issues warning as hot weather continues

With the forecast predicting temperatures up to 30°C this week, Lancashire Fire and Rescue is warning families to be vigilant about water safety.

Many young people will be drawn outdoors to enjoy the warm weather, but the fire service is reminding people that open water spots such as rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs and quarries can pose serious risks.

Despite their inviting appearance, these waters are often colder than expected and may hide dangers like strong currents, deep areas and submerged objects.

A LFRS spokesperson said: “If you're a parent, carer, grandparent or friend, please take a few moments to talk to them about staying safe around water before they head out.

“Encourage them to enjoy organised water sports in a safe environment, with the correct equipment and a qualified instructor, or choose a supervised swimming pool if they want to cool off.

“Please help us spread the word this summer.”
