We have the infrastructure in Blackpool and Fleetwood to help the economy and national security
“I believe it is crucial we protect all industries.”
Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers has called for the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme to be extended to all manufacturers, warning that high energy costs risk driving businesses away.
Beavers said British manufacturing was essential to national security and highlighted the opportunities for the Blackpool North and Fleetwood constituency to play a role in strengthening the country's defences and economy.
She said: “British manufacturing is essential for our national security and in Blackpool North & Fleetwood we have the infrastructure and opportunities to help strengthen our defences & economy.”

The scheme currently supports frontier and foundation manufacturers that meet high electricity intensity thresholds, including businesses in defence, construction and aerospace. However, Beavers believes support should be available across the manufacturing sector, arguing that all industries have an important role in protecting the country's resilience and economic security.
She said: “Whether you're making aerospace and automotive parts or food, drink, & pharmaceuticals, manufacturing supports our national resilience while protecting our economy and maintaining vital infrastructure and I believe it is crucial we protect all industries.”
The MP also highlighted the impact of energy costs on manufacturers, saying barriers could lead businesses to leave the UK. She believes extending the scheme should go hand in hand with improving Britain's capacity for domestic and clean energy.
Highlighting the importance of manufacturing to the local area, Beavers said: “Manufacturing has always been a part of Blackpool North & Fleetwood and while we work to bring more industry back to our area, I will keep fighting to support British industry.”
