'I don't want to do it all myself!' Thornton cafe boss plea for muscle power to help teen's fundraiser

“Come on guys, help me out!”

A big-hearted cafe owner in Thornton is calling for extra muscle power to help a youngster achieve her dream school trip to Spain.

Chris Hargreaves, who owns Scribbles Cafe on River Road, is calling for men to join him in attempting a collective 500 reps with a telegraph pole to help her raise the money for the special trip.

He previously carried the 50kg pole up Pendle Hill to raise money for the YMCA, but this time he wants to keep it local, joking that he 'wants to avoid cardio and stick to what he’s good at, which is lifting heavy things'.

Chris Hargreaves had only just opened his cafe when the teenager walked in with a box of hand-made pens which she was hoping to sell to raise money for a school trip to Spain.

It gave Chris the idea to hold a fundraising event to help the enterprising youngster, called Louisa, out on her quest to raise £500 so she can join her classmates on the trip to Spain.

"I did a post with this young lady and it went viral and a lot of people got in touch, and she's even sending pens now to Canada and America.

“But we want to make sure that she got her trip. I like to bring people together and do good in the community, so we're having a fundraiser this Sunday.

"We're going to be lifting the big telegraph pole, doing 500 shoulder presses, to raise some money for Louisa.

“She will be here with a little jar, and we'll also have other stuff going on here too.

"He adds that the more men that join him, the quicker they will reach the target of 500 reps.

"It looks easy, but it gets harder after a few. It would be great to have some men to take some of the reps off me, so I don’t have to do it all myself.

“Come on guys, help me out!

“I believe, as a community we should all come together to help make these little changes in people’s lives.

“We’ll have buys here to hold both sides of the weight, a couple want to do it between them so we will have people here to help steady it.”
