Thousands of residents set for 1st contact from Fylde Council about new weekly food waste collection service

Thousands of Fylde residents will soon receive the first official communications about the council's new weekly food waste collection service

With letters beginning to arrive from Monday 20 July, the first phase of the rollout will reach around 10,000 households across the borough, marking the start of preparations for the new service ahead of its autumn launch.

Residents receiving a letter will be among the first to join the scheme, with food waste caddies due to be delivered before collections begin. A further information guide will accompany each caddy delivery, confirming residents' individual collection start date and collection day, making it easy to prepare for the new service.

‘We're here to help’

Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: "We're so pleased to be taking this next step and getting information out to our residents. If you receive a letter, it means your new food waste service is just around the corner - and we're here to help every step of the way.

“I hope that all residents will get involved, as every food waste caddy makes a real difference - cutting down on landfill and turning everyday waste into renewable energy."

Backed by more than £1 million in Government funding, the initiative will enable kitchen and food waste to be recycled into renewable energy through anaerobic digestion instead of being sent to landfill. Weekly food waste collections will take place on residents' existing bin collection days at no additional cost.

Residents who would like to learn more about the new service or ask questions are encouraged to attend one of the Council's community engagement sessions, which will be held at locations across Fylde throughout the summer.
