7. Phillip Wrigley
Phillip Wrigley, 37, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on May 10, 2021, after seriously assaulting a man at his flat in Lightburne Avenue, St Annes, on July 21, 2020. Wrigley was initially charged with attempted murder but following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, a guilty plea to Section 18 – wounding was accepted. A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike following a collision in Lancaster Road, between the villages of Pilling and Cockerham, at around 3.45pm on October 20, 2018. The man, who was later identified as 42-year-old John Rhodes from Fleetwood, suffered "serious injuries" and died at Royal Preston Hospital on October 21. Officers launched an investigation following the collision and found Martin Sweeney, 46 and Jamie Wilding, 40, had been riding alongside Mr Rhodes. A number of witnesses spoke to officers at the scene where they revealed "key evidence had been tampered with prior to police arrival". Sweeney was arrested at the scene, with Wilding later arrested in the early hours of October 21. Both men were later charged and initially pleaded guilty to dangerous driving before entering guilty pleas at different stages to perverting the course of justice. Leroy Brown subjected a woman to a terrifying sexual assault at an address in South Shore in October 2018. Brown, 31, of Albert Road, Blackpool, was found guilty of rape in August 2021 and was sentenced at Preston Crown Court. He was jailed for 12 years and must serve eight years before he is considered for parole. He was also been given a lifetime restraining order and a lifetime sex offender notification requirement. Keith Murphy, 73, indecently assaulted his young victim when she was aged between nine and 12-years-old in the 1990s and early 2000s. Murphy, of Cheddar Avenue, South Shore was convicted of nine counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 and eight counts of indecency with a girl under 16. A man who deliberately drove his car into a group of pedestrians during a "rage attack" near Blackpool's North Pier has been jailed. Adam Clarke, 30, of Arnfield Road, Stockport, was sentenced to six years and four months in prison after appearing at Preston Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, December 2) He had previously pleaded guilty on September 21 to two counts of attempted section 18 assault, two counts of common assault and one count of dangerous driving.
