Bispham £1m cannabis farm - two men jailed

Two men were brought from Vietnam to Blackpool to be gardeners on a cannabis farm, a court has heard.

It follows the discovery of a £1m farm at an industrial unit in Bispham, near Blackpool.

Preston Crown Court heard police found nearly 1,000 plants across different rooms at the building on February 5.

Cuong Kim Dang, 34, admitted growing cannabis between January 1 and February 5 this year.

Co-defendant Son Van Nguyen, 33, also of no fixed abode, admitted cultivating cannabis on February 4.

Officers from Blackpool Task Force assisted Blackpool Neighbourhood Police dismantled the set up.

Jailing them for a year each, Judge Beverly Lunt ordered the forfeiture of Horticultural Equipment and £84 in cash.

It is understood the defendants will be subject to automatic deportation to Vietnam after serving their sentences.

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested and charged with cultivating cannabis during the same incident, but prosecutors have offered no evidence against him.

Proceeds from illegal cannabis grows is known to fund other types of crime including modern slavery, human trafficking and terrorism.
