Pip is the main benefit paid to people with long-term physical or mental health conditions or disabilities.

Blackpool South has got the 4th-highest proportion of working-age Pip claimants in the UK, according to analysis of constituencies up and down the country.

The proportion of working-age adults claiming personal independence payments (Pip) ranges from one in 30 in some Westminster constituencies to more than one in six in others, analysis shows.

Pip is the main benefit paid to people with long-term physical or mental health conditions or disabilities. It is intended to help with everyday tasks and extra living costs. The vast majority of claimants are of working age, which is defined as between 16 and 64 years old.

Press Association analysis of figures published on Tuesday by the Department of Work & Pensions shows there are nine constituencies across England and Wales where at least one in six working-age adults claim Pip as of July 31 2026.

All nine are represented by Labour MPs: Liverpool Walton (19.3% of working-age adults), Easington (17.5%), Blaenau Gwent & Rhymney (17.2%), Blackpool South (16.8%), Aberafan Maesteg (16.7%), Knowsley (16.4%), Bootle (16.3%), Birkenhead (16.3%) and Merthyr Tydfil & Aberdare (15.7%).

Of the top 20 constituencies with the highest rate of working-age adults claiming Pip, all are Labour-held seats except for one: Clacton, which is represented by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The seat with the lowest rate is Bristol Central, which is represented by the Greens, followed by 10 Lib-Dem held constituencies.
