Blackpool South MP Chris Webb has formally applied for a banking hub to be established in South Shore following the closure of the area's last bank branch last year.

The move aims to restore access to face-to-face banking services, which Mr Webb says remain essential for many residents, particularly older people and small businesses.

A banking hub brings together services from several banks under one roof, allowing customers to withdraw and deposit cash, carry out everyday banking transactions and receive in-person support close to home.

‘South Shore has been crying out for in-person banking services’

“I’ve now formally applied for a banking hub to come to South Shore,” said Chris Webb MP. “Since losing its last bank last year, South Shore has been crying out for in-person banking service. Face-to-face support is vital for many residents, particularly older people and small businesses.

“A banking hub brings together several banks under one roof, giving people a place to withdraw and deposit cash, manage everyday banking and get real, human support without a leaving their neighbourhood. It’s a lifeline for a community that’s been left behind by bank branch closures.

“With the funding secured through the Pride in Place Impact Fund – part of a £1m investment I’m bringing to the area – we’re now working on getting a building in place and taking the next steps in the application process.

“These are just the first steps in the process. The decision rests with LINK, who assess applications on local need, but I’ll keep pushing hard to make the case for South Shore. Everyone deserves access to proper banking services on their own high street. I’ll keep you updated as the application progresses.”

“The proposed national network of shared banking hubs being provided by the banking industry are proving a popular and easy to use way to do that.”placeholder image

Work is now underway to identify a suitable building and progress the next stage of the application. The application will be assessed by LINK, the organisation responsible for deciding where banking hubs are introduced based on local need.

A banking hub would be a valuable local asset for many people, especially older generations and small businesses, who often rely on in-person banking for services that cannot easily be accessed online.

Face-to-face support provides help with managing accounts, handling cash, resolving issues and receiving financial guidance. For many, especially those less confident with digital banking, local branches remain an essential and trusted part of everyday life.
