Blackpool lifeboat crews hit 100 callouts as missing children spark major search
The volunteer crew’s hundredth activation of the year saw a multi-agency search for two children reported missing in the sea.
Blackpool RNLI launched its lifeboat for the 100th time this year during 24 hours of emergency callouts.
The first came on Thursday when crews responded to reports of two children missing in the sea near North Pier.
The HM Coastguard alerted the RNLI, who deployed both a D Class and an Atlantic 85 lifeboat to conduct the search.

Beach Patrol teams were also mobilised and the children were thankfully located and reunited with their families.
The following day, the RNLI's pagers sounded again at 12.46pm, signalling a concern for a person's welfare in the sea near Central Pier.
While lifeboats were prepared for launch, the situation was resolved by the Beach Patrol.
The incidents culminated in the RNLI’s 100th response to emergency calls this year.
A spokesperson for Blackpool RNLI highlighted the significance of the day's events, stating: “Keeping Blackpool safe is really a team effort and as we keep saying, if you see anything of concern, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. As you may have seen, seconds count.”
