Blackpool Grand Theatre is putting Culture within reach of even more people this August, releasing a limited number of tickets for selected shows for just £29.

The month-long Summer Sale arrives at a defining moment for the town, as Blackpool makes its case to become UK City of Culture 2029. Blackpool has always understood the power of culture: it can be found in its theatres and ballrooms, its comedy, circus, dance and music, the glow of the Illuminations, and the generations of performers, artists and audiences who have shaped Britain’s best-loved seaside resort.

But the bid is not simply a celebration of Blackpool’s extraordinary entertainment heritage. It is a statement about what the town believes culture should be in the future: open, relevant and woven into everyday life.

At its heart is the belief that culture belongs to everyone, from lifelong theatregoers to families, young people and those who may never previously have felt that a theatre was for them.

The Summer Sale gives that ambition an immediate and practical purpose. Blackpool does not have to wait until 2029 to widen access, welcome new audiences and help more people discover the shared experience of live performance. Our Summer Sale is one practical way of opening the doors wider and making a night at this magnificent theatre more accessible. “This is a genuine opportunity, but it is deliberately limited. Every participating performance has a fixed number of £29 tickets and, once they have been booked, we cannot promise there will be more. If you see something you would love to experience, my advice is simple: do not leave it too late.”

Blackpool is one of nine places longlisted for the UK City of Culture 2029 title. Access and participation sit at the heart of the national programme, recognising the power of culture to build pride, strengthen communities, create opportunities and transform places.

As one of the town’s most important cultural landmarks, Blackpool Grand Theatre has been bringing people together since 1894. In 2029, the theatre will celebrate its 135th anniversary, making Blackpool’s City of Culture ambitions particularly meaningful for this historic venue.
