Konrad Brett, three, has been told he needs an operation but has now been stuck on a waiting list.

He first became ill at just seven months old after he contracted a mystery virus that left him sick for eight weeks.

Then one night, his mum Katie, 31, received an alert from his sleep apnea app and when she went to check on him - she realised he wasn't breathing.

The following months were hell for Katie and her family as Kondrad was constantly in pain and sometimes his tonsils were so sore that he woke up covered in blood.

He also stopped breathing in the night often.

The single mum-of-two spent months fighting for a diagnosis - being told she was an 'overprotective mother' and even got sacked from her old job in the process.

But Konrad finally received a diagnosis - which revealed that his tonsils were so big they were blocking his airways as he slept.

The youngster was then told he needed surgery to have his tonsils removed, but due to waiting list times - he couldn't have the life-changing surgery for at least another year.

Katie, from Thornton-Cleveleys, then decided that she would instead fundraise so her son could have the surgery sooner, and she has now spoken out about 'frustrating' the situation is.

She said: "It's just horrible.

"There's been so many times I've been crying down the phone to the hospital which is just exhausting.

"It doesn't just affect me and Konrad, it affects his brother Colton-Joe as well.

"There's been times when Konrad has fallen poorly in the middle of the night, and I've had to drag them both out of bed in the night.

"Even one time Colton-Joe had to come in the ambulance with us, and then get picked up from the hospital by a family member.

"It's just so hard seeing your child so poorly, and knowing that you could put him to bed one night and he might wake up all because of his tonsils.

"It's just very frustrating.

"You love your kids more than anything in the world, and you would do anything for them.

"But I just feel like there is nothing I can do."

Katie's sister Sasha Marsden was tragically murdered at the age of 16 in 2013 and every year, the family hold a rounders tournament in memory of her.

They normally would raise money for charities, but this year decided to raise money towards Konrad's surgery.

Katie said: "We decided to raise money in my sister's memory, we was suppose to raise money for Macmillan.

"But the organisers said that if Sasha was given a choice, she would want to help her nephew so the money went to Konrad's surgery instead."
