Shock as swish Italian restaurant and wine bar Zest Lytham handed 1 star in latest food hygiene inspection
Popular Lytham restaurant and wine bar Zest has been handed just one star out of 5 for hygiene.
Commanding a prime spot in Market Square, Zest describes itself as ‘classy and cosmopolitan’ - “where Lytham’s charm meets the irresistible allure of Italy”.
But inspectors were unimpressed with its food safety standards when they visited the establishment on January 8. They handed Zest a one star food hygiene rating (out of five) and said ‘major improvement was necessary’.

Fylde Council have not released the report’s full findings at this stage, but a summary has been published by the Food Standards Agency.
Food Safety Officers found improvements were needed in regards to hygienic food handling, while ‘major improvement’ was required in the management of food safety.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building were ‘generally satisfactory’, added the inspectors.
The restaurant was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Council, marking 24 years since its doors opened in Market Square. Since opening its doors more than two decades ago, Zest has built “a strong reputation for consistency, community spirit and customer service” said the Council.

Zest shared the news on social media this week, thanking the Council for the recognition and praising its team for their continued dedication.
Zest and Fylde Council were approached for comment.
