Covid has decimated the retail and tourism sector in the town over the last year, and with no sign of lockdown ending any time soon the pressure on businesses is continuing to mount.
While many businesses have cited Covid as the main cause for the closure, some businesses have closed for other reasons.
These are just some of the shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions that we have loved and lost in Blackpool.
1. Pizza Hut, Cleveleys
Pizza Hut, Cleveleys - It was announced in September 2020 that the Jubilee Park restaurant on North Promenade in Cleveleys would not reopen due to the financial impact of the Covid pandemic. Photo: Google
2. KFC - Blackpool
KFC - Blackpool - Earlier in January it was revealed that the franchisee had opted not to renew the lease on the building in Bank Hey Street. Photo: Google
3. Las Iguanas - Blackpool
Las Iguanas - Blackpool - The Casual Dining Company which owned the Church Street restaurant was put into administration in July 2020, citing difficult trading and the coronavirus lockdown for its failure.
4. WH Smith - Blackpool
WH Smith - Blackpool - One of the high streets biggest names announced in December 2020 that its Bank Hey Street store would close in January 2021. The store which was also home to the town centre Post Office. Dwindling trade was blamed for the closure. Photo: Google
5. Scrooges - Blackpool
Scrooges - Blackpool - The legendary venue announced in May that it would not be reopening following the end of lockdown one. The owners confirmed in a statement that wine bar alongside other properties in their portfolio have been sold in a redevelopment deal with Blackpool Council. Photo: Google
6. Mammas - Blackpool
Mammas - Blackpool - The popular Italian restaurant closed its doors in March 2020 due to the first lockdown. However in June it was confirmed that the business had ceased trading after 40 years in the town.
