The annual free event which features Second World War displays and battle recreations traditionally attracts tens of thousands of visitors from all over the country and was due to celebrate its 10th anniversary on August 15 and 16.

Organisers Fylde Council say that with the restrictions of the current pandemic, it has become clear that it will not be possible to put together all the necessary pre-planning to hold the event this summer.

A council spokesman said: "In order to successfully plan and hold the event, we rely on resources from local authorities as well as emergency services, all of whom have the important job of keeping the people of our country as safe as possible at the moment."

Coun Cheryl Little, chair of the Fylde Council's tourism and leisure committee, said “In the current environment and with deep regret we have had to cancel the event.

"The key authorities need to focus on front line services – I hugely value how hard the committed team work behind the scenes to bring this fantastic event together.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Lytham for August 14 and 15, 2021 for what I know will be an extra special event."
