Blackpool Carers Centre are hoping people can go the distance and climb Ben Nevis, Snowdon or even Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the charity.

It follows on from charity supporter Joe Blockley climbing the African mountain last year.

A spokesman for Blackpool Carers Centre said: “During this global pandemic, our carers need our support more than ever before, to help them maintain those vital caring roles for loved ones.

“Our ‘Climbing For Carers’ virtual challenge is a fun way of keeping fit during lockdown and also helping us raise those much needed funds to allow us to continue with the physical and emotional support whenever it’s needed. Giving carers somewhere to turn to in their hours of need, no matter their age, from five to 95.”

Those looking to take part will need to climb 6,550 stairs to match Ben Nevis’ height of 1,310m or 4,610 stairs to the top of Snowdon Ascent.

And those thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro will need to do 24,915 stairs to the top!

The charity said despite the lockdown it will continue to try and raise money throughout the year.

The spokesman added: “We had so many fundraising events lined up with our supporters who love a challenge. Many were hoping to complete their own running and cycling challenges in a bid to raise as much as possible for carers and their families, sadly due to the global pandemic, these have quite rightly been cancelled, but we hope that our existing fundraisers and new supporters will consider completing a couple of our virtual challenges this year.”
