Blackpool Tower maintenance contract awarded

The contract is to provide structural engineering advice and services for the maintenance and refurbishment of the steel structure for a period of two years, starting from this month.

There will also be an option to extend the contract, which is worth an estimated £195,000 over two years, for a further four years.

A total of eight bids were originally made for the contract.

The work will include full inspections of the Tower every six months, an annual review of the Tower main legs using CCTV cameras fed down the internal legs and via rope access, painting and to identify future work which is required.
