Ring rumble's return to Circus will be mega

A top touring wrestling show is set to ring in the changes at Blackpool Tower Circus.

Megaslam Wrestling has announced a series of shows, bringing the sport back to the iconic venue after a 10-year break.

Megaslam boss Brad Taylor was inspired to set up shows in Blackpool as a fan of the resort’s wrestling super star William Regal.

The 24-year-old set up Megaslam in 2009, having started watching wrestling aged five and turning professional at just 14, but has never yet been able to book a show in Blackpool - despite the resort’s place in wrestling history.

“We’ve never yet been able to go to Blackpool,” he said. “The nearest we’ve got is Lytham, which is crazy really.

“But the thing was that if we were going to do Blackpool, it had to be the Tower Circus.”

The team will be coming to the Tower Circus on Wednesday, February 17 for their first show, with another to follow in April and a weekly night during the school summer holidays.

A spokesman for Megaslam added: “Blackpool really is the birthplace of wrestling in the United Kingdom, the one-time home of possibly one of the most successful performers of all time, William Regal, and home to the most historic hall in wrestling, the Blackpool Tower Circus.

“It has seen some great memories over the years from Big Daddy to Haystacks to William Regal and former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

“Our night of action will feature top stars from home and abroad battling it out in a fight to the finish with big moves and even bigger characters. It’s 100 per cent family entertainment, centred around being a great time for families to come along and watch our International show in their hometown.”

Stars set to feature at Megaslam include British stars Martin Kirby from Thirsk, ‘Brain of Pain’ Paul Malen, Megaslam champion ‘The Juice’ CJ Banks. Mexico will be represented by high flying sensation El Ligero and the ladies will have their time to shine as Wales takes on England, when Nixon battles Lizzy Styles.

There will be five ‘big bouts, culminating in a American rumble-style match’.

“It’s a dream come true for me to bring a show to the Tower Circus,” Brad added. “I have read William Regal’s book so many time and his stories about wrestling in Blackpool are brilliant.

“It’s great to be going into a venue where not just famous wrestlers but all kinds of performers have been.”
