Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful coming to Blackpool Grand Theatre in 2027
From the legendary storyteller behind War Horse comes an unforgettable story of family, first love and the devastating human cost of war...
A stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s acclaimed novel Private Peaceful is coming to Blackpool Grand Theatre for three nights next year.
The production, from the author of War Horse, Kensuke’s Kingdom and The Butterfly Lion, will be performed at the theatre from Monday, February 1 to Wednesday, February 3, 2027.
Private Peaceful follows Tommo Peaceful, a young soldier spending his final night looking back over his life.

As he waits for morning, Tommo recalls his childhood in rural Devon, his first love and his close relationship with his older brother Charlie before his memories lead him to the trenches of the First World War.
Unlike War Horse, which tells the story of the conflict through the eyes of a horse, Private Peaceful focuses on the experiences of one young soldier and the impact of war on his family and future.
The production has been adapted and directed by Simon Reade, with Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate Benjamin Cain making his professional debut.
Cain performs the entire show alone on stage, portraying the characters, memories and experiences that make up Tommo’s story.
The production has no large-scale battle scenes, instead using a single performer and Morpurgo’s words to explore family life, first love, courage, loyalty and the brutality of war.
The show is suitable for audiences aged nine and over.
Performances at Blackpool Grand Theatre will take place at 7pm on each of the three nights.
Tickets start at £18, while school tickets for all seats cost £15. A free teacher ticket is available for every 10 student tickets purchased.
Tickets are available from blackpoolgrand.co.uk or by calling 01253 290190.
