Bosses behind Lancashire's biggest music event Lytham Festival have announced it will not go ahead due to ongoing restrictions with the Covid pandemic.

Lytham Festival founders Peter Taylor and Daniel Cuffe have said they had 'explored every possibility' in trying to host the five-night music showcase which this year included headliners Lionel Richie, Duran Duran and Diana Ross.

"We are very pleased to say we have rescheduled Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, Duran Duran and Lionel Richie to the new dates in 2022.

"Diana Ross will also return in 2022 and new dates will be announced alongside her new European Tour dates in the coming weeks:

"We strived to make the event happen in 2021 and even explored the possibility of moving the festival later in the year.

"Unfortunately, with the timescales for reopening being very close to the start of our festival and continued restrictions on international travel for our artists, this is not going to be possible.

"We are now in the process of making some big plans for Lytham Festival’s triumphant return next year. Please stick with us… we promise it will be worth it.

"We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the NHS for their extraordinary efforts in rolling out the vaccine, as well as thanking all of you for your patience and for keeping the spirit of Lytham Festival alive until we can return to The Green," Dan and Peter said.

The decision came down to the wire they added. Tickets for 2021 will automatically be transferred to 2022 and the new dates for the concert(s) confirmed.
