Curtain raised on construction of second live performance stage at Lowther Pavilion Theatre

Construction on its highly-anticipated 150-seat Education Centre & Studio Theatre began as the venue staged Jack and the Beanstalk, which broke its pantomime box office records.

While the first performance of this year’s pantomime took to the stage, inside Lowther’s historic theatre, construction of the additional live performance area began at the back of the venue.

The steelwork for the building went up over the festive period.

Bosses say this new space will help to keep Lowther at the heart of the Fylde community for generations to come.

It will enable a secondary programme of events and also boost the number of local opportunities from volunteering to employment.

Teresa Mallabone, Chair of the Lowther Gardens Trust, said: “This is a momentous stage in the Trust’s journey to provide the Fylde Coast with a state of the art facility that will not only serve the local community but also attract visitors to the area.

"We will now focus on fundraising for the ‘fit out’ of the facility.”

This phase of Lowther’s ambitious redevelopment campaign has been funded by donations from organisations such as the Windmill Community Benefit Society, Soroptimist Society, Beaverbrooks, Dougie Chapman Associates, and the continuing support of the theatre’s loyal customer base.

Tim Lince, Lowther’s CEO/Artistic Director, said it follows the success of The Tent, the venue’s temporary community marquee which provided additional space for coronation celebrations and summer activities in 2023.

He said: “The success of The Tent has been quite unprecedented as it has given all aspects of the community in Fylde the ability to get involved in some way. This will obviously be carried forward into the new building. Seeing it rise out of the ground in these difficult times should be a point of celebration for everybody in the region proving that future thinking and community values are at the heart of living on the Fylde”

For the first time in its 103 year history, the Lowther Pavilion Theatre & Gardens extended its 2023 panto run into the New Year.

Paul Holman Associates will return to Lowther for 2024/25 and invite theatre-goers to look into the magic mirror for Snow White.

It will retell the classic story of the wicked queen’s magic mirror as it declares Snow White the fairest in the land. When the evil queen is overcome with jealousy, she plans to do away with the beautiful princess.

Snow White and her seven little friends attempt to defeat the evil queen’s plans in the enchanted forest.

But will Snow White meet her handsome Prince and live happily ever after?
