Thousands would normally gather to enjoy bonfire and fireworks displays across the county, but with coronavirus restrictions in place the annual celebration will be moving online.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue have announced they will be hosting a virtual firework display on their Facebook page this year for residents to enjoy.

The virtual event will include a firework display, a bonfire, interviews with firefighters, demonstrations from fire dogs, a bedtime story from Firefighter 'Cloughy' and much more.

Community Protection Manager Liam Wilson, for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We know that many people have found 2020 a challenge and that some will want to use fireworks and bonfires as a way to cheer their kids up. However, children unfortunately account for the majority of the firework injuries we see every year.

"To protect your family, please consider watching our online digital display with them rather than setting off your own fireworks at home."

The fireworks footage will be shown on Facebook Live HERE on Thursday, November 5 at 6.30pm, and will run until approximately 7pm.

LFRS fear that many people will try and hold a DIY display in their garden, however the service is asking people to consider a few things before they do so.

People should check the fireworks they buy are suitable for the size of their garden. Category 2 and 3 are only for sale for the public for outdoor use, and they must carry the CE mark which is the safety standard. Fireworks can also not be sold to under 18s.

It is also important to ensure they are stored safely which means out of reach of children, secure, where they cannot get damp and also away from other sources of ignition and combustibles.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "We know that this year Bonfire Night will be very different and without the usual organised displays to attend, more people will be thinking about celebrating at home.
