After one of the most challenging seasons in the ITV family show's history, which has forced the final show forward one week, Dan said this week had been one of immense excitement and thrill for all involved.

Actress Faye Brookes, Olympic champion Colin Jackson and DJ Sonny Jay will all take to the rink for the last time this Sunday in their last bid to get their hands on the ice trophy.

Two of them will also have the chance to present their recreations of the Olympic winning performance of Jane Torville and Christopher's Dean's 'Bolero.'

Dan said: "The finish line is almost here and I can't tell you how exciting that is - this is going to be a very special show final this year.

"With all the other issues aside we knew this series was going to be a challenge after the last year but what we set out to do as a team from the very off was create something uplifting and just to bring something positive and light up the screens every Sunday through the winter months.

"I couldn't be more proud to be part of Dancing on Ice from the cast and the professionals coaches to all behind the scenes, production, make up costume but the massive efforts of those who kept us safe. It's been strange in that studio - we've felt it at times but everyone has upped their game this year, they really have."

Dan said he especially excited about some of the professional routines he has put together for the final extravaganza to make sure the show goes out with a bang. But he said it also promised to be a series to go right to the wire, with any of the finalists in with a shot of being crowned champion.

He said: "It's far too close to call again this year and it's all going to come down to that all important public vote. I know I say it every year but without being cringy - it really always is a journey for all our celebrities and I think you see that in the ones that have made it here.

"They are all very different, have mastered their way through and have all worked super, super hard this week. I know they're just excited to get out there now.

"During rehearsals the other day Sonny just stopped in the middle of the ice and shouted 'Dan, I'm doing the Bolero - how crazy is that.' It means so much to all of them. He's gone from zero to hero since week one.

"Honestly it's going to be exciting make sure you tune in."
