Wesham's senior athletes go fourth

It was the sixth and final fixture of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League for the 2016/17 season at Leigh on Saturday.

In the women’s 6K course, Kath Hoyer was the first to finish for Wesham in 51st place with 27:08.

Jenn Thompson (27:14) was close behind in 53rd place, while Kerry Eccles (31:29) was 95th.

The senior team finished fifth at Leigh, giving them fourth for the series overall.

The W35 team finished seventh after a very strong start to the season, while the W45 team was fifth, on equal points with the bronze team but without scoring over the final two events.

Dave Waywell clinched his M70 title for the season with his sixth win in 30:01 over the 6K course.

In the senior men’s 10K course, David Taylor ran very well to finish 22nd in 41:15.

Steve Myerscough finished 102nd in 47:19, John Collier 122nd in 48:18, Martin Bates 132nd in 49:13 and Nigel Shepherd 154th with 51:00.

The senior men’s team finished fifth in division two and avoided relegation, no B team scored all season; the M40 team are sixth in division one, the M50 team languish 10th, while the M60 team did not score.

Rob Danson returned to action in the Trafford 10K on Sunday and ran a personal best of 31:12 to finish 55th.

Lee Barlow was running and he was 268th in 37:16 with a chip time of 37:04.

Helen Lawrenson was 61st woman with 43:22 (43:08 chip time), finishing 444th overall.

Nicola Unsworth was the only Wesham runner in the Haweswater Half Marathon on Sunday.

She completed the 13.1 miles in 1:40:12, finishing 121st overall.

Kath Hoyer ran the Red Hot Toddy 10K race in Todmorden on Sunday, finishing 62nd overall in 51:53.

Martin Bates ran the Trotters five-miler on a multi-terrain course in Smithills Country Park, finishing 90th in 37:55 (37:51 chip time).

Gemma Owen ran the Irwell Valley 20, finishing 21st woman with a time of 2:59:34 (2:59:17 chip time).

Claire Jones ran the Accrington 10K, finishing 308th overall in 59:08 (59:19 gun time).

In the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning, Phil Leaver was the fastest Wesham runner in 24:18.

Ben Wrigley clocked 26:01, Fran Hodskinson 26:12, Diane Blagden 26:17, Finlay McCalman 26:48, Clive Berry 30:19 and Debbie Bell 30:45.

At the Preston parkrun David Taylor warmed up with 19:27, Steve Myerscough 20:14, Peter Cruse 20:22 and Robert Brown 26:08.

Jonathan Lawson was in London for the Hampstead Heath parkrun which he completed in 23:38.

The Gores were at Harrogate where Megan and Vicky both ran 37:14.

Steven Gore was in San Francisco for the Crissy Fields parkrun where he ran 19:54.

In the Blackpool run Steve Waterhouse continued his return with 18:21, leading in Carl Groome (21:13), George Kennedy (23;16), Bernadette Dickinson (26:04), Stephen Browne (29:02), Sue Rigby (32:46) and George Flanagan (36:25).
