Rob Danson, however, saw out the year in fine style with a PB at the Ribble Valley 10K.

Setting off with purpose he settled into the lead group which included world class traithlete Jonny Brownlee.

A big effort saw Danson finish sixth overall in 30:25, 36 seconds faster than his previous best, and gave him fourth place in the Northern Athletics 10K Championships staged within the race.

Boxing Day’s traditional 10K in Leyland’s Worden Park was as popular as ever with 444 runners.

Ben Wrigley finished in 53:26 (52:30 chip time), Dave Young 53:47 (52:51) and Paul Carter 57:14 (56:14).

Runners had many chances to do a parkrun with some venues offering events on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
