Northern Taekwondo students work together to give the club a memorable weekend
Taekwondo students have struck gold at a prestigious competition.
Northern Taekwondo students teamed up to give the club one of the greatest achievements in its history at the Manchester International tournament.
The club was crowned Best Team of the Day on both days of the event, which attracted competitors from across the globe.
Athletes from Spain, Ireland, Italy, India and Morocco were in action, alongside a number of teams from throughout the United Kingdom.
Students produced outstanding performances throughout the weekend, winning Saturday’s team award for patterns and Sunday’s for sparring in addition to a collection of gold, silver and bronze medals across all age groups and grades.
Their gold medal winners ranged in age from six to 67 and, as a result of their displays, a number of Northern Taekwondo competitors will represent the club at the Spanish Open in Valencia this October.
Grand Master Lee Heyes, an eighth Dan, said: “To win Best Team of the Day on both days of such a prestigious international event is an incredible achievement.
“Our students have worked exceptionally hard, training week after week, and their dedication, discipline and determination were evident throughout the competition.
“These results are a reflection of the commitment shown by our students, instructors and families.
“To compete against athletes from around the world and come away as the top-performing club across both days is something we are immensely proud of.”
Established for nearly 40 years, Northern Taekwondo offers classes in Blackpool, Thornton, Wesham, Pilling, Longridge and Poulton-le-Fylde, as well as delivering programmes in 15 primary schools.
It has also recently expanded its programme with the launch of its brand-new Taekwondo Tigers classes for children aged three to six.
Heyes added: “We are incredibly proud of every student who represented Northern Taekwondo.
“Their attitude, sportsmanship and commitment were outstanding, and these results show what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance and quality coaching.”
