In the second half Ampthill went two scores in front at 8-0 with a try by Sam Baker and a penalty by Joseph Tarrant.

Jordan Dorrington, who produced a dazzling display, scored a try for Fylde, before the home side inched ahead with a touchdown by Ralph Dowds to make it 10-8.

A penalty by Tarrant on 78 minutes looked as though it might seal it at the death before Smith gave Fylde a richly-merited win.
