Maher, who was at Fleetwood before his move to Fylde, has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks with the likes of Tom Burtonwood, Ben Gregory and Alex Loney ahead of him.

Fylde player-coach Paul Arnold said: “We are disappointed that Danny has left, but his lineout throwing was not consistent enough for playing at our level. We wish him all the best at Blackburn, where he will be playing alongside his brothers who are already there.”

Meanwhile, Warren Spragg returns to the Fylde squad at Cambridge on Saturday for the first time this season following a shoulder injury.

Former Italian international Spragg, who is part of the Fylde coaching set-up, had an operation on his shoulder during the summer.

Arnold said: “Ideally, we would have liked Warren to have a runout in the second team. He is back playing at the time the doctors said he would; he is on the bench tomorrow, but could play at full-back if Chris Briers is out with a rib injury. In that case Connor Dever would come in on the bench.”

Fylde will be without Sale Sharks trio Jake Pope, George Nott and Sam Bedlow.
