Preston hooker Mills joins Fylde

Preston Grasshoppers’ hooker Phil Mills is leaving the club to link up with Fylde RFC in time for the 2015-16 season.

The 21-year-old former Myerscough College student played his youth rugby at Bolton RUFC and progressed into the Preston Grasshoppers senior squad in 2012.

Mills made 90 league appearances for ‘Hoppers as well as gaining representative honours for the Lancashire, the county under-20s, North of England under-20s and England Colleges.

He was part of the Lancashire squad, coached by Mark Nelson, which beat Cornwall at Twickenham in the Bill Beaumont County Championship Final in May, 2014.

In addition, he has played numerous games for Sale Sharks Jets and Development XV.

Fylde coach Paul Arnold said: “I’m really pleased that Phil is joining us for next season.

“He is an ambitious and talented young player who wants to test himself at National One level.

“He knows the attacking ethos of our squad and tactics and wants to contribute to this.

“He was skipper of the Lancashire under-20s when I coached the squad so I know the strengths of his play.

“He’s tough and quick so will be a real asset in the first team squad.”
