Paralympian Myles Pearson to take on world's best

Myles Pearson is a Paralympian and European champion at wheelchair rugby

Paralympian Pearson, who represented Team GB’s wheelchair rugby team in London 2012, will be a key member of the squad for next month’s tournament.

He was first introduced to wheelchair rugby at the age of 15 and made his debut for GB in 2011 before being selected for that year’s European Championships, returning with a silver medal.

He was then the youngest member of the GB Paralympic team at London 2012.

After taking some time off to complete his studies, Myles returned to Lancashire and rejoined West Coast Crash, becoming part of the Talent Development team during 2016 with a goal of being invited into last year’s selection camp.

Having acheived this, Pearson continued to work hard and was selected for the team which emerged triumphant from the European Championships last year.

Myles said: “I just can’t wait to get going.

“This is such a great team to be part of and I know we are capable of doing something very special.

“Lots of people have helped fund the team this year, and we want to thank them and show them we are a medal-winning team.”

The inaugural King Power Quad Nations brings together Paralympic gold, silver and bronze-winning medallists from Australia, Japan, the USA and Great Britain.

One of the only full-contact disability sports, wheelchair rugby (originally called murderball) is played by two teams of four who aim to score by carrying the ball across the opposing team’s try line.

It was first recognised as a full medal sport at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney and has since been an integral part of the Paralympic and Invictus Games.

Taking place from March 9 to March 11 at the Leicester Arena, the King Power Quad Nations is an international tournament that will feature the world’s best players from the four top nations.

As reigning European champions, Great Britain will be looking to capitalise on home court advantage as they take on the very best in the world.
