Jon Amor, chairman of the junior section, told The Gazette: “We reopened immediately after lockdown and got our kids back playing cricket.

“The women’s and girls’ section has been on the cards for a year or so and the kids were all desperate to play. The girls are really up for it too and we have a lot of wives and mothers involved.”

Jodie Riches, who heads the new section, said: “A few of us set the ball rolling last year and now we’ve decided to really get it off the ground.

“The numbers are good but we’re having to put a limit on how many can join in the sessions at the moment because of Covid. We’ve got three games lined up but I’ve said to all the girls that if they don’t want to play matches there’s no pressure to. I don’t play myself – it’s all about the fun of it.”

The section meets at Fleetwood CC at 6.30pm each Friday, though due to restrictions anyone interested in joining is asked to contact Jodie in advance on 07943 469248.
