Sport may be off the menu but that isn't stopping Blackpool's charity champ Ryan ('Big Ry') Smith from helping to feed those in need and those in the frontline during the coronavirus crisis.

Blackpool fundraiser Ryan Smith makes special delivery to Tyson Fury before lock...

Last night Ry delivered almost 200 bottles of water to the intensive care unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and tonight he plans to return with takeaway meals for staff. His businessman friends Spencer Brown and Paul Gleave are kindly funding Ry's community-spirited actions.

South Shore-based Ry made another special delivery to a struggling family after a woman arrived at Lloyd's Pharmacy on Waterloo Road.

Lloyd's took up the story: "A woman asked if we knew anywhere she could get food as her family had nothing in to eat. We made some calls but couldn't get through, so we rang Ryan and he sorted it straight away.

"All at Lloyd's want to thanks Spencer Brown for donating the money and Big Ryan for doing the shopping and dropping it off from the family. Amazing!"

Ryan featured in The Gazette last week after he delivered exercise equipment to the home of Tyson Fury (a client of Brown's Gold Star agency), helping the world boxing champion to step up his training from home while the gyms are closed.

Fury was delighted to receive the running machine, bench and other fitness equipment after Ryan and two friends made a 200-mile round trip to the heavyweight champ's Morecambe base after collecting the gear from Ripon, North Yorkshire.

The equipment was generously provided by iGOTDOMS, a business specialising in compression clothing for the sports industry and run by former professional rugby league player Andy Wray.

Physiotherapist Wray's clients include many top boxers - such as Shawn Porter, Jorge Linares and Kell Brook - and Super League clubs.

Wray told The Gazette: "I wanted to loan my personal gym equipment to Tyson as mine is a sterilised physiotherapy clinic, so I knew it would be safe to get to him in this coronavirus outbreak.

"It’s important to me that our nation's favourite undisputed heavyweight champion has the opportunity to continue his fitness regime, allowing the many people who watch him to continue to becoming mentally and physically stronger during his dominance of the division.

"I feel a lot of people can relate to Tyson and his big heart makes him all the greater as our champion."

Fury was most grateful to Wray and to Ry, paying for our local hero to deliver hand-sanitisers to Blackpool care homes.

Champ Fury thanked Ry in a personalised video you can see via the 'Read more' link at the top of this article.

And this wasn't the first video sent by Fury to the South Shore charity fundraiser.

Ry woke up on Christmas morning to a video from Fury and another from fellow world champion Anthony Joshua, after they had heard about Ry's acts of festive charity delivering presents around Blackpool. Joshua's video is attached to this article.
