Mikey's guide to handling second lockdown

I get asked all the time, how does someone get in shape fast?

The truth is that you can, and for me, I believe an aggressive approach to nutrition and training does have its place sometimes.

However, while the aggressive approach does have its place in your lives, there has to be a realism that approach is not a long-term thing.

The aggressive nature of the approach means that it can only be sustained for a maximum of eight to 12 weeks, depending on the individual’s mindset.

So what happens after this? There is a lot longer left in your life than this dieting phase, so what now?

Now it has to become about your life, how can you adapt your lifestyle to be better day in day out and consistently get an improvement on the results you have.

Balance: You have to find some balance. You can give up a few nights out, some takeaways and a few drinks for a couple of weeks, but can you do it forever? If not, after this aggressive phase, you need to begin to find a way to fit them into your new healthy lifestyle.

Training: Anyone can stick to a program for four to12 weeks, however now that plan is over and the original goal has been reached, it is now time to start fitting your training around you. Try to stick to weight training between three and four times a week.

Nutrition: Continue to get it right but allow a little flexibility. Stick with 80 per cent good with 20 per cent treat. Being too strict without a target is a ticking time bomb for falling off the wagon. If you have nothing to be 100 per cent for, then don’t worry about only being 80 per cent.

Enjoy the process. Consistently improve every week and then watch as the results come.
