Batting pair take Lancashire records while Tom Hartley impresses with the ball in Vitality Blast victory over Notts Outlaws at Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire overcame Notts Outlaws for their first Vitality Blast win of the season.

Lancashire got themselves up and running in the Vitality Blast with a 39 run victory over Notts Outlaws at Emirates Old Trafford.

Keaton Jennings and Matty Hurst were on hand with an impressive partnership, with the former claiming a new club accolade and the latter producing his best batting performance of the season.

There was also a half century for Ben McDermott in a record time, while with the ball, Tom Hartley took four wickets, as a total of 208 proved to be enough for Steven Croft’s side to secure their first T20 win of the campaign.

It was a slow start to the afternoon for Lancs, with just one run coming from the first over and Michael Jones exiting in the second - as Mohammad Ali claimed the opening wicket following a catch from Tom Moores.

Just before the dismissal, Jennings provided a strong platform to build on with a four, after being caught on the first ball of the chase in the defeat away to Surrey on Friday night.

Back-to-back boundaries followed for the captain in the third, before another in the fourth, while Hurst smashed the first six of the contest.

Jennings also found a big shot of his own in the fifth - which helped him on the way to a personal tally of 51 runs by the time he exited in the13th over, with eight fours in total also under his belt.

This saw the 33-year-old become the fastest player to reach 2,000 T20 runs for the Red Rose, overtaking the previous record in 70 games.

There were also three further sixes for Hurst as he hit a personal high score of the season of 56, with a partnership of 97 coming alongside the skipper and 12 with McDermott - who came in at four.

The Australian was able to continue what his teammates had started, as he marked his first Old Trafford home outing for Lancashire with 63 runs, becoming the club’s joint-fastest overseas player to score a T20 half century (21 balls).

On the back of his debut in the Blast opener down in the capital, Joe Moores was also able to add 13 to the final target, before becoming the second player of the afternoon to be taken by Ali, with Benny Howell adding a catch to his earlier wicket.

George Linde also came close to being at the double, but George Munsey was unable to get himself in position quickly enough to collect the ball.

Meanwhile, Jack Haynes couldn’t help Dillon Pennington get a wicket under his belt, with the 25-year-old also giving Lancs a let off.

Alongside his fellow countryman, Chris Green was able to see out the innings with 13 runs of his own.

Munsey bagged the first boundary of the Outlaws’ chase, with a well placed shot going over the boundary, while Joe Clarke produced a big shot of his own at the end of the third over.

That pair continued to tick along nicely for the visitors, with the partnership reaching 50 off 25 balls.

A blow came Lancs’ way at the start of the sixth, with Jack Blatherwick forced off through injury after his first attempt of bowling, but a boost followed on the very next ball, as Hartley provided the breakthrough, taking Clarke - who exited with 21.

Munsey soon joined his colleague after scoring 37, with Jennings catching for a George Balderson wicket.

At the end of the same over, the 25-year-old also took Tom Moores for six, courtesy of Hartley collecting the ball on the boundary.

There were some safe hands from England international again just after the midway point, as Harry Singh enjoyed a strong stint, which included Haynes’ wicket.

The favour was then repaid to take Freddie McCann, before the 21-year-old also caught a Linde shot off a Green bowl.

Hartley’s third and fourth wickets came in the 16th over, as he smashed the stumps of Joe Pocklington, before a Howell shot was caught by Tom Aspinwall.

Jennings caught a Farhan Ahmed shot to give Saqib Mahmood Lancashire’s ninth wicket, while Ali and Pennington saw out the innings as Notts fell short with 169-9.
