Lancashire embracing pressure ahead of crunch Roses meeting with Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire welcome Yorkshire to Emirates Old Trafford on Friday night.

Friday night is shaping up to be a crucial outing for Lancashire as they take on rivals Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Roses matches are always major affairs, with over 14,500 tickets sold for the occasion so far, but this one in particular has a lot riding on it.

Last week’s defeat to Notts Outlaws and Monday night’s tie with Derbyshire leaves Lightning’s Vitality Blast quarter-final hopes hanging in the balance.

Alongside doing their own job in the final two games of the groups stages, Steven Croft’s side also need results elsewhere to go their way in order to be the best ranked third-placed team to qualify.

“Pressure is something we are in a lucky position to feel - we are lucky to play in front of the number of people who’ll be here on Friday night, that comes with acknowledgement that you are playing professional cricket for Lancs,” skipper Keaton Jennings said.

“It’s a really cool thing. The guys should accept the weight on their shoulders, whatever that is, and come and throw some punches, it’s an amazing day and a special occasion not a lot of people get to play in. Go and get the one hand catch, or hit the six, that wins you the game. It’s a time the guys should be looking forward to.

“We take every game in isolation, and make sure you are competing for a period of time in each one; we haven’t done that as a unit across 240 balls, so hopefully Friday is the start of that.

“If we do our job, then we leave it up to other guys; if we don’t then it’s irrelevant.”
