Fylde RFC don’t expect to be consulted over the issues of promotion and relegation from the halted National Leagues, though head coach Warren Spragg hopes decisions are taken “for the good of the competition”.

Fylde stood second in National Two North with five games remaining but admit it is unrealistic to hope for promotion without further fixtures.

However, team boss Spragg believes promotion or relegation should take place in cases where it had already been confirmed - as with NL2 North’s top and bottom sides, Caldy and Scunthorpe.

But what matters most to the coach is that the right decisions are made, even if his club is not directly involved in the process.

Spragg told The Gazette: “I don’t think the RFU will come to the clubs to ask our opinion but there are committees which operate at different levels. I expect all the consultation will take place at committee level.

“We just have to trust that there is a balanced approach to these discussions and that the right decisions are made for the good of the competition.

“My main concern is that no opportunistic attempts are made to stake claims for particular clubs.”

And Spragg has no complaints that the top tier of the league structure is so far exempt from this cancellation of the season.

“I think it’s right for the Premiership to be given every chance to continue because the money invested by owners is enormous,” he added.

“I completely understand why they would want to try to finish the season in some way and bring in any revenue they can.

“Like with Premier League football, if they can get matches played this season it will make an enormous difference financially.”
